MEXICO: Sugar production down nearly 80% on the week

Mexico produced 1,483 tonnes of sugar in the week that ended June 23, down 89.7% from the 14,523 tonnes produced the previous week and down 79.4% from the 7,199 tonnes produced in the same week in the 2016/17 season, data from Mexico's Secretariat of Agriculture (SAGARPA) showed, according to Platts.

The amount of cane crushed also fell significantly, with 34,066 tonnes of cane crushed during the week ended June 22, down 71.7% from 120,561 tonnes crushed in the previous week and down 45.7% from 63,397 tonnes during the 2016/17 season, the data showed.

The amount of cane crushed has reached 99.51% of the total 2017/18 season forecast, and sugar production is up to 100.56% of expectations.
